Road Trip 2024 – Part 4

The road trip continued...After Washington D.C. and the trip to Boston it was time to head back into Canada.

Part IIII – Boston to New Brunswick

After rest and work catch up in Boston I started the Canadian portion of the road trip adventure with a first stop in Saint John, New Brunswick. I was pleasantly surprised by the food and drink options nearby my chosen downtown Marriott hotel but the thick fog made it impossible for me to actually see any sites. I missed the Bay of Funday so will need to go back.

Part IIII – New Brunswick to Nova Scotia

Luckily the fog cleared for my stop in the UNESCO World Heritage Site town of Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. Founded in 1753, it was a planned British colonial settlement. The historic buildings are all well preserved and the town is very clean despite being over-run with tourists in the summer. I had a quick walk around town and the waterfront and found a very ‘touristy’ place for lunch. My favourite building was the 1907 Bank of Montreal stone structure.

Then it was time to pick up Mom who flew from Winnipeg to Halifax. We had two days to visit the city with highlights being the Halifax Citadel and Alexander Keith’s Brewery. The Citadel was completed in 1856 but the brewery was actually founded in 1820! The brewery tour was very interesting and also really fun ending with live local music and a beer tasting in the cellar of the brewery. Definitely a must visit!

Part IIII – Nova Scotia to Newfoundland

Our next stop was St. John’s, NFLD via the overnight ferry from Sydney, Nova Scotia. The Newfoundland adventure required a blog of its own. You can read about St. John’s, Newfoundland here.

You don’t have to be location independent to see the world. It just helps. Sometimes it is complicated and sometimes it’s not…but it is ALWAYS worth it!
