Burrowing Owl Cabernet Franc
We purchased the Burrowing Owl Cabernet Franc a number of years ago… around 2006 on a trip thorough the Okanagan. At the time we were told to allow the wine to age 2 – 4 years. Of course we purchased three bottles and while we thought about the advice we received we couldn’t wait to try the wine. So after about six months we did. It was OK!

Later Tastings
After we had let the second bottle age about two years we noticed a remarkable difference, much more fruity flavour and a nice light finish. We found it to be an excellent BC wine.
Tonight’s Tasting
Tonight, with a dinner of Alaska King Crab, we had our final bottle of Burrowing Owl Cabernet Franc 2004. While the smell was great with a light fruity flavour, the spicy after taste left us with a mixed feeling about the wine. However overall we did thoroughly enjoy the wine we would look for a slightly early vintage to avoid the spice of the after taste!

Burrowing Owl makes some great wines. I like the Merlot in particular.
Have you ever tried any of the Church & State Reds? The winemaker from Burrowing Owl moved there a number of years back and their wines are excellent.
The also have a lower price point wine called “Church Mouse” they release from time to time, definitely recommend picking up.
Thanks for the feedback Scott. It has been a while since we have tried Church & State wines. Good reminder to pick-up a bottle for a future dinner 🙂
