BC Wine in Winnipeg
Our case of wine arrived from Kelowna’s Volcanic Hills Winery two weeks ago and we have since enjoyed one bottle of each variety that we ordered. Since we knew what we were ordering (from past experience) we have enjoyed them all, but here are our favourites and recommended Netflix pairings.
Tara’s Favourite: 2016 Pinot Noir
This Pinot is very smooth, light and fruity but still has a bit of earthiness and a hint of vanilla. There are not many BC Pinot Noir’s that we don’t like, but this is a favourite. All of the grapes are grown in West Kelowna within 10 kilometers of the winery. ($25.09)
If there ever was any left after dinner it would pair nicely with a few ‘light’ and funny episodes of ‘Grace & Frankie’ or ‘Life in Pieces’.
Jeff’s Favorite: 2014 Merlot
While not as rich and dark as some Merlots, this velvety wine is medium dark in color with flavours of dark fruit and a touch of spice. The grapes are sourced from vineyards in Osoyoos and Oliver, B.C. and the Merlot was aged for 18 months in 40% new French oak. ($22.09)
This is an excellent food wine but also pairs nicely with a ‘dramatic’ episode of ‘Suits’ or ‘Money Heist’.
Anytime Wines
Both the 2017 Magma Red ($20.09) and the 2018 Gamay Noir ($18.09) are ‘easy’ reds that we would drink with any meal or evening of Netflix. The Gamay is ruby red and light bodied while the Magma is a light to medium blend of Zweigelt, Pinot Noir, Merlot, Marechal Foch and Cabernet Franc. Both are great pizza and a movie wines!

The Free Shipping promo that we ordered from is still on-going. Use the promo code SIPHAPPY on the Volcanic Hills website to shop local. We will be ordering another case as soon as we get settled in Kelowna on May 1 (and figure out what our address is 😉).
