Okanagan Wine Tasting
On our recent trip to the Okanagan, specifically the Osoyoos and Oliver regions, we had a chance to visit a number of wineries. Some were new to us including Rustico Farm & Cellars and Moon Curser Vineyards but we also went to a few we hadn’t visited in 10 or so years. This included Silver Sage Vineyards located near Oliver, BC.
Silver Sage Winery
Silver Sage is set on the bank of Oxbow Creek, which meanders gently through the vineyard and offers a picturesque view of the surrounding mountains and countryside. It is on a bench referred to as the Golden Mile region, which is known for its rich soils and microclimate. Silver Sage Winery is a family-owned and operated business. The wine tasting room is in the bottom floor of a large house that also offers luxury Bed & Breakfast accommodations, something we may have to check out on our next visit to the region.
Silver Sage Pinot Blanc
The winery produces a number of different varietals of white and red wine and dessert wines, some of which are truely unique (try The Flame if you go). We purchased a number of wines as we enjoyed a lot of what they were offering, particularly the whites. Once we got home and decided to open a bottle from our trip one of our first choices was the Silver Sage Pinot Blanc. We found it very clear in colour and full of citrus fruit and apple aromas. Stainless steel tanks are used in both fermentation and the aging process allowing the fruit characteristics to stand out, and making for a very smooth finish with little after bite. At $15.95 per bottle this is a great value white wine and can be enjoyed with seafood or as a summer sipper on the patio.
