Wild Orchid
Now that we are back in Vancouver we still have a few bottles of wine from our Wild Orchid Wine Club in Hinton, Alberta to “finish off”. The other night we opened a bottle of Rupicolo Castel Del Monte from Italy near the region of Puglia. Puglia is one of Italy’s warmest, most southerly regions. The region is well know in Italy for the variety of red wine grapes it produces.
2016 Rupicolo Red Wine
The Rupicolo grape is a red wine variety grown widely in central Italy. We found the flavour to be light and easy drinking, like a Pinot Noir. It’s a fruit forward wine with “juice” flavours. It is made with 50% Montepulciano grapes and 40% Nero Di Troia grape and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon grape. We figured we would like the wine because of these grapes, and because we have been lucky enough to visit the Montepulciano region ourselves. We were right. It pairs great with pizza! At under $15 (USD) it is a wine we would drink again.
