Nederburg Winery
Nederburg was established in 1791 by German immigrant, Pillipus Wolvaart, on 49 hectares in Paarl Valley, South Africa. The winery produces small batches of its wine from grapes that are all hand picked. Nederburg has won more wine awards than any other South African winery. The original manor house built in 1800 has been given national monument status.

Nederburg Shiraz 2009
We acquired this wine during our trip to Marquis Wine Shop (more about that here). The Nederburg Shiraz is made from 100% Shiraz grapes and is part of their Winemaster’s Reserve collection (they produce four other Shiraz’s under different labels). It is dark ruby in colour and smelled strongly of berries. There were some good berry flavours to taste but also hints of spice (although not over powering). Overall for a Shiraz which we can sometimes find too spicy in the finish, this wine had more of a soft finish. Overall, we really enjoyed it and would have it again.
