Hillside Estate Winery
We stumbled on Hillside Estate winery about a year ago on one of our trips through the Okanagan. Hillside is located in the south Okanagan near Penticton, B.C on the Naramata Bench. In the early 1900s this site was owned by the Riddle family who operated an apricot orchard. Their property stretched about 100 yards north to what is now Riddle Road; the original farmhouse stood on what is now the site of the tasting room. 2008 Pinotage
We’ve been dining on our 4th floor patio quite a bit lately with the “heat wave” in Vancouver and on this night blindly pulled out a bottle of Hillside Estate Pinotage. It was a warm day and although Jeff was having ribs and potato on the BBQ and Tara had fajitas with fresh veg from the Framers market the wine may have been a little too heavy for the weather. The wine itself was good, but very heavy with lots of big spicy flavours. Although it was aged 9 months in American oak it doesn’t give a huge oak flavour. We would have probably enjoyed it more if we didn’t have it on such a warm day while dining outside. As luck would have it we do have one more bottle of the 2008 Pinotage to try on anouther day.
