In the beginning – Movember
Movember is a term coined by some Australian Men in 1999 referencing the terms Moustache and November. Movember is a fundraiser created to raise awareness and funds for Men’s health issues in particular prostate Cancer. Since 2004 the Movember Foundation charity has run events to raise awareness and to raise funds. In 2007 Canada, Ireland, Spain, the United Kingdom and the United States began launching events for the Movember Foundation and in Canada for Prostate Cancer Canada.
The Canadian PGA Joins Movember
This year the Canadian PGA has joined Prostrate Cancer Canada to support, create awareness and raise funds through the Movember program. Canadian PGA Members are being encouraged to start with a clean shaven face and grow a Mo (the Australian term for Moustache). The Mo should be kept cleanly trimmed throughout the month.
Mo Sistas Play an Important Role
While growing a Mo is left to the guys, Mo Sistas (women who support their guys) form an important part of Movember by recruiting Mo Bros, helping to raise funds and attending events and Gala Parties. The parties at the end of Movember are the ultimate celebration of the Moustache and the grand finale to the Movember journey.
