A Year in Canada
January 1, 2022 marks 1,980 days of no fixed address. Not having a home during an entire year of the pandemic has proved to have its challenges but we are ever grateful for being healthy, very busy with our company and able to move freely around our province of BC and Canada this year. We spent most of the year in BC (minus 20 days in AB, SK and MB) and 2 nights in the US.
Beautiful BC
We did mange to see a great deal of beautiful BC this year including time spent in (alphabetically) Kamloops, Kelowna, Kimberley, Mabel Lake, Nelson, Penticton, Panorama, Revelstoke, Sun Peaks, Vancouver, Victoria and Whistler. We did also manage a Western Canadian Road Trip this summer including all the ‘hot spots’ 😉 Calgary, Edmonton, Medicine Hat, Okotoks, Red Deer, Regina, Saskatoon and Winnipeg.
US Detour
We did have a small travel hic-up when the highways connecting the Lower Mainland of BC to the Interior were closed and we were stuck in Victoria. We decided to take a 2-night US detour to get back to the Okanagan. With stops in Tacoma and Wenatchee (two more hot spots) and an at home COVID test when we crossed the border, the trip was pretty uneventful. We did however manage to find a new Marriott to add to our favourites list – the newly opened Marriott Tacoma Downtown. We will be using it as a stop over on our way South early in 2022 (we hope).
Room Key Counts
Surprisingly, we still managed to accumulate 33 hotel key cards to add to the collection. We are also happy that Marriott gave us 37 bonus nights this year (due to the pandemic) which brought us to 84 total nights this year to keep us over 75 per year and in the Titanium Elite category. The best news on the Marriott front for us though is that this year we reached Lifetime Gold Elite Status. Just 3 more years and we will reach the highest level of Lifetime status available – Platinum.
On the Road Again
Speaking of South…it’s time to go. Kelowna weather so far in December has not been anything like 2020. The cold is just too damn cold! We are resuming our more truly location independent lifestyle starting in January. We will be driving South January 15 for 3+ months in California and Nevada. We plan to spend May and June again in the Okanagan and have booked an AirBnB in the Beltline neighbourhood of Calgary for a month this summer.
Fall and Winter
Our fall and winter plans are to carry on where we left off in 2020 with a 3 month European trip followed by a drive up the East Coast from Florida all the way to PEI. Planning has begun but nothing has been booked that cannot be cancelled. Like many other friends, family and colleagues our fingers and toes are crossed to just get moving again!
We, Jeff and Tara Ciecko of CK Golf write two blogs, one is our 19th Hole Blog where we share personal experiences and the other an Industry Blog where we comment on general business and internet marketing best practices, sales strategies and give golf industry related opinions. We have owned CK Golf for 14+ years and provide business services to the golf and other industries. As of July 31, 2016 our life and our business became ‘location independent’. Our 19th Hole Blog is about the places we visit and the things we do. If you have any questions or comments, or happen to be in the same location as us please reach out and contact us anytime.
