Layer Cake Wines
One thing about travelling and being location independent is that it forces you to try new and different things. While we were in Florida we were out for dinner one night (OK more than one) and were having a fairly upscale meal so we thought we would order a bottle of wine to go with it (yes just one bottle). The red wine list was fairly small and there was not one wine on it that we recognized so we closed our eyes and picked the Layer Cake Malbec.

Layer Cake Winery
The Layer Cake wines are actually brewed in 4 very different locations, Australia, California, Italy and Argentina. The 2015 Layer Cake Malbec we choose happened to be from Argentina, specifically the Mendoza region. Mendoza sits 3,000 feet above sea level and has optimal “layers” of soil that make it perfect for grape growing (according to their website).

The Layer Cake Malbec turned out to be a great choice! We both liked it which doesn’t always happen. It had bold dark fruit flavours, which Jeff loves, but had little to no spicey aftertaste, which Tara loved. Having read a bit about the wine on there website you could taste the “layers” that went into the wine. Overall a great choice and at $38 restaurant retail (in Florida) it is a wine we would have again!
