TaylorMade-addidas Golf. On Tuesday January 12th the TaylorMade-addidas golf company announces it is laying off about 70 employees (about 5 percent) of its work force. Mark King, CEO, stated in part that the company is “taking a variety of critical actions to reduce our workforce, however difficult times require difficult decisions”.

This is understandable considering the economic times specifically in the United States as many other companies are laying off employees. However, the next day January 13th, TaylorMade-addidas is back with another big announcement. This time it appears tightening the belt is maybe a move needed only to ensure the rich get richer as a day after the layoff announcement TaylorMade-addidas announced the signing of 17 new players to play TaylorMade equipment on the 2009 PGA Tour. In a statement, Chuck Presto, TaylorMade-adidas Golf senior vice president of global sports marketing announced that “Tour usage is the ultimate validation for our company’s products and we are flattered that the world’s best players rely on TaylorMade to help them perform at their highest levels.”

What a couple of well said, politically correct statements by the CEO and the Senior Vice President! I guess a devoted staff producing the quality product they have become known for is less important than seeing a TaylorMade visor or staff bag on TV each week. This might even be a double bogey!
