Long Beach Golf Course
The Long Beach Golf Course, on the most westerly point of Vancouver Island in Tofino, is owned and operated by Keith ‘Gibby’ Gibson and his team. The day we visited there was a heavy fog and although the clouds threatened, it turned out to be a decent day for a game of golf. We have to admit to falling into the preconceived notion that 9 hole golf courses are easy… that is until we got to the first tee at Long Beach Golf Course. The opening tee shot is guarded by water on both sides of what is likely one of the more narrow fairways on the golf course.

Seven Thousand Yards
After the opening tee shot, the golf course doesn’t get any easier. A number of holes are fairly wide open, but at 3,334 yards for 9 holes from the blue tees, which are not even at the back of every tee box, the course is anything but short (think at least 6,668 for 18 holes). I had two favourite signature holes that I thought were the best on the course which were the view off the tee from the 405 yard Par 4 third hole and the finishing 9th hole an intimidating 375 yard Par 4. While the course is a bit rough in the fairway, the greens, approaches and tee boxes are among some of the best we’ve played this season. View our full photo set from the Long Beach Golf Course.

Best Local Rule
From the scorecard: “Bear rule: if bear interferes or takes ball (FREE DROP).” Overall, for a $25 nine hole round of golf, when you visit Tofino be sure to have a game at the Long Beach Golf Course and be sure to say hi to ‘Gibby’ at Gibby’s Pro Shop (Long Beach Golf is also on Twitter).
