Thursday, June 11th, we had the opportunity to attend the City of Surrey Invitational, a Canadian Tour Event. It was the first round of the tournament held at Hazelmere Golf Course.
We hadn’t been to a professional golf tournament in a number of years. In fact, I think the last one was the Phoenix Open on the PGA Tour. It was a great day outside and other than the fact that we both ended up with pretty good sunburns, the day was a great experience.
I’m not sure what we expected going in, but as the PGA Tour advertises, “these guys are good!” We ran into a number of friends and saw some great golf shots. Hazelmere is a good venue for a golf tournament as four of the holes intersect in a very small area allowing for some good viewing of a variety of players without to much movement.
We saw some older players that Jeff watched years ago as a young junior, like Kelly Murray and Danny Mijovic, some up and comers like Derek Gilliespie (the first round leader at seven under par) and some local PGA professionals such as Bryn Parry and Kyle German. We also watched 15 year old local Adam Svensson who Monday qualified for the event by shooting a score of 68.
The first rounds scores are available here!
Overall it was a great day and we would highly recommend everyone make the trip out to Hazelmere and enjoy some great golf. Thanks to the West Coast Golf Group for providing us with tickets.
