Dining at Home!
It has been awhile since we have done a wine blog – too busy to enjoy some grape at home I guess. Friday with Tara’s Mom in town, we cooked at home something we rarely do. Lamb, vegtable pasta and a bottle (might have been two) of Red Rooster Syrah (2008).

Wine Club
We got the wine through our Membership in the Red Rooster Wine Club.  As a member of Adopt-a-Row Club we have our own row of vines, rented for one or more years.  We receive:
-12 bottles of wine (6 red and 6 white – 3 of 2 different types of each) picked up at the winery.
-The member’s row of vines are be labelled with our name.
-Personalized certificate of membership.
-The membership entitles us to buy any gift shop items with 10% discount.
-Newsletter outlining our news and events.

How much does it cost?
The annual rent for a row of vines is $299.00 (incl. GST), and includes all of the above plus an invite to two wine weekends each year.  The first is the Spring Event which involves learing how to prune your row.  In the fall it is picking season.  Both events involve numerous wine tasting events and a lunch.  We were able to attend the fall event in 2009 and had a great time but so far we have been unable to make it in the spring.   Maybe next year.

The Syrah
This year one of our 3 red wines was the 2008 Syrah, which we had with the lamb and vegtable pasta dinner.  It was a great wine liked by Jeff and Mom K. although Tara thought it was a bit young and in need of aging, even though it had been decanted for more than an hour.  The taste in our opinion had blackberry and choclate flavour which fit well with the dinner.  A wine we look forward to trying again with some aging on our remaining two bottles.
