Ocean Wise Month
November is Ocean Wise month and one of our clients (University Golf Club) is involved in an Ocean Wise event taking place at the Vancouver Aquarium. We are supporting both UGC and the Ocean Wise program so we thought we would tell you a little bit about both.
What is Ocean Wise?
Ocean Wise is a Vancouver Aquarium conservation program created to educate and empower consumers about the issues surrounding sustainable seafood. Ocean Wise works directly with restaurants, markets, food services and suppliers ensuring that they have the most current scientific information regarding seafood and helping them make ocean-friendly buying decisions. The Ocean Wise symbol next to a menu or seafood item is the Vancouver Aquarium’s assurance of an ocean-friendly seafood choice. Ocean Wise choices are species that are: Abundant and resilient to fishing pressure; managed as part of a comprehensive plan based on current research; harvested in ways that limit by catch of other, possibly endangered species and harvested in ways that limit damage to ocean habitats. University Golf Club includes several Ocean Wise choices on it’s regular Westward Ho! Public House & Grill Menu (http://universitygolf.com/Dine) as well as on it’s weekly entree sheets.
