On the way Home
After 8 days in Winnipeg we were ready to head home, but not before a stop for lunch at Muddy Waters Smokehouse. Located at The Forks we decided it would be a great place to gather a group of people on the patio for some afternoon drinks and appys on our next visit. The décor is laid back with mix and match furniture and wooden tables and set up with paper towel rolls and all the ‘fixins’ you might need right on the table. It reminded us of Bubba Gump’s or the Crab Shack in the US but this time for Southern BBQ.
Southern BBQ
The menu had some great appys but this time we were here for the chicken. Mom and Tara split a Spicy Chicken Burger with Stout drizzled onion rings and a side order of Baked Beans. Jeff ordered the Pulled Smoked Chicken Sandwich. The chicken burger was very spicy indeed and was washed down well with a Margarita. The burger was so spicy it was hard to tell if the beans were or not, but they were good anyway. The pulled chicken sandwich was a good size and served with a huge portion of delicious homemade fries. Smoked in Muddy’s BBQ sauce the flavor was very good and the chicken tender. The service was fast and friendly and since we were one of only three tables in the restaurant the food was delivered very fast. If you are looking for ‘a mix of authentic and not-so-authentic Southern style Bar-B-Que’ with a great view (which is hard to find in Winnipeg), this is the place. After afterward you can take a walk through the market for some shopping or to pick up some great Winnipeg food for dinner.
Winnipeg Airport
Since we have been away from Winnipeg (almost 15 years) the dining options have both increased and improved immensely. The one thing that has not changed is the Winnipeg Airport. Of all of the ones we have been in it has the least amount of services built into the most uninspiring building you can imagine. There is almost no shopping, very few food options, and bad seating in the terminals. However, we are happy to report that a brand new terminal is under construction and it cannot be completed soon enough, hopefully before our next visit.
