Lunch at Joey’s Wine Bar
Last weekend we were out and about doing some errands and needed some lunch so we chose the Joeys at Burrard and Pender. We had been to Joey’s Wine Bar at this location before but had never eaten lunch. The restaurant was very quite as it was a Saturday so we had our pick of seats and chose a great big, high booth just for the two of us. The room has a great vibe with long tables down the center of the space and a mixture of booths, tables and lounge type seating throughout. The menu is a good mix of appys, lunch size plates and entrees.
Jeff ordered the Angus Beef Dip which was served with a Red Wine Au Jus and spicy Horseradish Mayo. The beef was lean and tender and the Rosemary flavored Au Jus was terrific. The accompanying fries were served in a silver bowl for a great presentation. Tara chose the Baja Fish Tacos. The Mexican hot sauce combined with the flavor of the corn tortillas, tomatoes and guacamole was good but the fish was deep fried pieces of a white fish and shrimp and was a bit disappointing. The tacos did not live up to the Halibut Soft Tacos of the competitor across Burrard. The accompanying Bellini however was great and the frozen quartered peach was a nice garnish. We will be back to give it another try including the Lobster Grilled Cheese sandwich.
The Wine Bar…a Must After Work
If you have not been and are a looking for an ‘afterwork’ spot, the Wine Room is a great option. Offerings include a selection of over 40 wines by the glass but it is the tasting trios that we thought were just great. Each of the staff member’s create a trio of their favorite whites or reds that are sold as three 2 ounce pours giving guests the opportunity to try several recommendations. We also liked the opportunity to try higher end wines (that are usually only sold by the bottle) in a taster size. The room is located behind the min restaurant and is darker and more secluded with a lounge-type feel. Both spaces are worth a visit at Joey’s Burrard & Pender in Bentall One.
