Davie Street in Vancouver
We were out last Saturday doing some shopping and decided to try a little place on Davie between Jervis and Bute for lunch. The little place was Café Luxy. It was packed at just after 1:00pm but we were able to get a small (tiny actually) booth for two. We could tell right away that the restaurant was family owned and run and after asking our server found out that the friendly women greeting the guests was in fact the co-owner and her husband and a few other relations were in the kitchen. The room had a great atmosphere and a feeling that it was a place that had a lot of regulars.

Breakfast & Pasta
While we opted for a late breakfast (served from 9 until 3 on weekends only) many of those around us were enjoying heaping plates of pasta. The breakfast portions were large as well and we thought quite reasonably priced. Tara opted for the Spinach Omlette that was also filled with very tasty mushrooms, tomatoes and feta cheese. It was made with what seemed to be three very large eggs and served with homemade (not frozen) potatoes and toast. Jeff had French Toast which interestingly was served with a choice of meat (bacon, sausage or black forest ham) and home fries. Given this combo, the restaurant obviously gets a lot of requests for home fries and thus include them on every plate. Great idea! The food was great and the service pretty good considering how full the restaurant was. The only downside was that the booth was so small and the plates so big that it was actually difficult to maneuver the condiments and beverages onto the table. But we will definitely go back to try the extensive pasta list that includes almost 40 choices and boasts fresh pasta made everyday.

Dine Italia On Now!
Speaking of pasta, if you love it now is a good time to seek out some local Italian eats. From October 23rd to November 8th Dine Italia will be running in the lower mainland. Participating restaurants are offering fixed price menus ranging from $15 to $50 including CinCin, Quattro on Fourth and L’Altro Buca to name a few.

Food (Breakfast) – GREAT, Service – GOOD, Atmosphere – GREAT
