Granville Street
A week and a half ago, after the Christams Meetup of Meetup’s (#yvrmeetups) gathering at Ceilis Pub on Granville, we headed across the street to the Speakeasy Bar and Grill for a quick bite. Little did we know that the menu would be huge and both the service and the atmosphere quite good. The room is long and skinny but opens up at the back. The main feature at the front of the restaurant is the bar but the back had a good number of large and comfortable booths. It was quite busy when we arrived but we managed to get a booth after waiting only five minutes. Our server was friendly and prompt and gave us some recommendations on the menu. Did I mention that it was huge!

Many Chicken Burger Options
From a full list of appetizers, soups and salads, over 20 burgers and sandwiches, pizza, fajitas and entrees we both chose a variety of the Chicken Burger. I had the California Cordon Blue Chicken Burger which was topped with a perfect combination of Black Forest ham, avocado and Swiss cheese and Jeff had the Speakeasy Chicken Parmesan which was breaded and topped with marinara, mozzarella and parmesan. Both arrived on huge Ciabatta buns that required the burgers to be cut in half before even an attempt at a bite. For sides the options are also extensive and include lattice or yam fries, green or Caesar salad, baked or scalloped potatoes and soup (some with an up-charge). We opted for one lattice fries and one scalloped potatoes. Both were great but the creamy potatoes with lots of cheese baked to a bubbling brown were delicious. Needless to say, we could not finish everything and went home with leftovers.

The atmosphere is great for a casual dinner or meeting up with friends and the food options, portions and quality are very good. We will be back to try the Nachos with a ton of add on choices and the multi-grain crust pizza. I wonder how hard it will be to get a table during the Olympics?

Food – VERY GOOD, Service – GOOD, Atmosphere – GOOD
