Glowbal Group – Society
A few weeks ago we had our first dinner at Society in Yaletown. Not sure why it took us so long, but we loved it. We are fans of Glowbal Group’s Italian Kitchen and always bring our visitors in for the Pasta Platter and the atmosphere. We have been to Coast and Glowbal Grill one time each but have not been in a real rush to go back as we have quite a few other favorite places. But Society may now be on our favorites list (even though Yaletown is a bit of a hike from Coal Harbour).

Sometimes you know that you will like a place just from the vibe when you walk in the door. The night we visited we were with two friends for dinner after a function. We were greeted warmly, our coats checked and seated quickly. The space feels more like a lounge than a restaurant with dark walls, comfy booths, a few seating alcoves, a large bar and terrific pink chandeliers. Upstairs is another great space with plush seatings and stools, rich colored fabrics and great lighting.

Menu, Food and Service
The menu covers all of the basics – salads and soups, appetizers, pizzas, pastas, entrees, steaks and sides – but in a not-so-basic way. A few twists on the traditional make it interesting. And the prices were much lower than expected for this type of space. Two orders of the Mac and Cheese Balls were a great way to start. The white cheddar was the perfect cheese to soften the spicy jalapeños. Yum! For dinner we shared a Hawaiian Pizza with grilled pineapple, smoked ham and prosciutto and Tara even liked it. Our friend Marc chose the 8oz Prime Tenderloin and our other friend Ben the Bacon and Egg Burger. Both looked great and we were all happy with our meals. The wine list is also reasonably priced with some good and interesting choices. Our server was a bit distracted as it looked like he was the bartender for the evening as well, but overall the service was decent. And again the prices are a great value.

Return Visit
The menu has some interesting, ‘comfort food’ type appetizers that we would like to go back to try, ones that we can both share. The pasta options also look good. So do the spiked milkshakes. We liked the food and the atmosphere which to us are the key components of a great place; so we will be back soon.
