Biking in the am
As part of our first day of Stay-cation we headed out for a bike at 9:00am.  It was quite nice to bike on the seawall without the rest of the ‘masses’.  We went from our Coal Harbour side past Lost Lagoon through Stanley Park to the pool and turned left onto the seawall.  We followed the path all the way around to Science World (which we rarely do because it is usually so busy on the weekend) and then down the Carrall Street Bikeway which for some reason is again under construction even though it is brand new?? A left turn on Alexander and two blocks down to Main we stopped at Deacon’s Corner for breakfast.

Gastown Diner
As “Home of the All Day Breakfast” you could say that breakfast is the specialty at Deacon’s Corner.  And a very good breakfast it is.  With choices from chicken fried steak to pancakes layered with pulled pork and biscuits with country gravy it is also the home of ‘comfort food’.  The Gastown diner is quite large with seating for at least 50 or 60 and was neat and clean.  Our server was friendly as was the owner or manager who was also on duty.  But it was really the food that kept us wondering why it had taken us so long to try it out.

Country Gravy and Baked Beans
Jeff ordered the Southern Scramble (minus the onions) which came with sausages, biscuits and gravy.  The sausages were chopped into the egg and were quite spicy, a great combo with the country gravy. The portions were large. It reminded him of the year he lived in Texas.  Tara had the B.E.L.T.C.H sandwich with a side of baked beans.  The sandwich was gooey with cheese and the beans were absolutely delicious.  Both breakfasts came with shredded hashbrowns that were cooked crispy all the way through like they should be (not like those places that make them crispy on the outside and cold in the middle).  Topped off with a glass of chocolate milk that breakfast would keep us full all day!

We picked up the take-out menu and Tara has here eye on the Baked Mac n’ Cheese.  You can even place an order online and pay online then just walk in and pick it up.

Waterfront Road
After breakfast it was back on the bikes for what was thankfully a short and mostly downhill ride home.  Waterfront Road is a great and fast way to get from Gastown back to Coal Harbour and avoid all of the street traffic.  It is also neat to see the delivery bays and all of the action underneath the Pan Pacific Hotel, Canada Place, the new Convention Center and Shaw Tower along the way.  Great morning in Vancouver!
