Girls lunch out – veggie bliss
The Naam is a full-service vegetarian restaurant located at 4th and MacDonald and is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, except Christmas. Jeff sat this one out and I finally got a chance to go – which I have been talking about since I heard good things about it more than two years ago. I had the terrific company of a good friend and great coach, Sandi of DevaCoaching fame, to give me some recommendations of her favourites. It was not as busy as I had expected for a Friday at lunch but if you go, aim for 11:45 to be on the safe side.
The Menu
Breakfast is served from 6am to 11:30am on weekdays (later on weekends). Lunch/Dinner runs from the end of breakfast right through until the next morning at 6am. Choices include starters, salads, soups, pitas, chili, Mexican, burgers, bowls and entrees. There are so many choices that I was glad I had a veteran to give me recommendations. I ordered the Maui Maui Burger Platter and it was huge! The Naam menu features three different types of burger pattys made from different ingredients. The Maui Maui is made with a Sam’s Patty which is a soy protein burger that is then topped with mushrooms, pineapple, water chestnuts and teriyaki sauce plus the standard lettuce, tomato, cucumbers and sprouts. The platters come with salad and these amazing sesame fries with miso gravy. Who knew I could like gravy?!
Food at The Naam
The food was very good. The burger patty was moist and flavourful. The burger was so stacked with toppings that I had a hard time taking the first bite. I did not need (or finish much of the salad). I did not really notice the service as we were busy talking but we seemed to have everything we needed when we needed it. A great lunch with great company and we have now made a date for The Foundation, another vegetarian treat that Jeff is happy to avoid.
