It’s a diner, not a drive-in or a dive
Deacon’s Corner Gastown Diner is located on the corner of Alexander and Main in the edge of Gastown (like its name suggests). The building is actually an office building with the restaurant on the main floor. The décor is ‘family diner’ with booths, a few tables and a counter with stools. They do not do dinner but specialize in breakfast and lunch. They are open from 8am to 5pm on weekdays and 9am to 5pm on weekends. The diner is always bright, clean and full of great staff.
Home of the VCBW Hangover Breakfast
If you live in Vancouver and have not been to Deacon’s Corner – Go Now! We have now been too many times to count and have not had a bad meal or bad service. This is a really hard thing to say about any restaurant. While this is not a ‘cheap’ breakfast joint, what you get here is value! The portions are large and the food and service are very good. If you have a hangover or are just craving some not too greasy grease it is the place to be.
The decor is so diner. We like sitting in a booth but the counter is pretty cool too.
The B.E.L.T.C.H. ($8.50) with bacon, fried egg, lettuce, tomato and cheese served with hash browns is my favourite. The hashbrowns are shredded and cooked to crispy on the outside. I usually order it on rye or sourdough toast but other options include white, brown and multigrain.
Jeff’s favorite is the French Toast ($9.95) – three pieces of bread dipped in egg and cinnamon and served with your choice of bacon, ham or sausage.
The Gas town Breakfast ($10.50) is for the really hungry or the really hungover. It includes two eggs any style, bacon, a sausage patty, hashbrowns, toast and your choice of baked beans or chili. The baked beans are delicious!
Jeff has tried the Biscuits and Gravy once. They were good but not quite like he got used to in Texas. There are several dishes that include biscuits. This is the Half Sausage and Biscuits($10.50) which is two eggs, biscuits with country gravy and two sausage patties plus hashbrowns.
And since the baked beans are so delicious I sometimes order them as a side ($3.00) for my B.E.L.T.C.H.
If you have not been to Deacon’s Corner yet you are missing out!
