Canmore, Alberta
As we continue on our location independent travels, last week our final stop before re-entering British Columbia was in Canmore, Alberta. We hadn’t stayed overnight in Canmore for about 4 years. Boy has it changed! What a great little downtown, walkable, full of shops and of course, craft brew places. We got lucky for a late October Alberta day as the weather turned out to great for a little exploring.

The Grizzly Paw Brewing Company
The last time we were in Canmore the Nieces and Nephews were with us and as young teens they had to be entertained. We found The Grizzly Paw Pub on Canmore’s main downtown street. The Grizzly Paw is a pub but likely became popular with families because of it’s sodas. The kids loved them! As the website states:

“Crafted in the Bow Valley, the Grizzly Paw offers 6 unique flavours, Black Cherry Cola, Root Beer, Ginger beer, Grapefruit, Orange Cream Soda and Cream Soda. Hand-packaged by locals, all our sodas are produced in small batches with cane sugar and mountain fed water”.

The Grizzly Paw Brews
Grizzly Paw operates both their downtown pub and brewery (the original) and a relatively new facility just off the Trans Canada Highway. The downtown location still does micro brews while the new location is a much larger facility producing their bigger batch brews.

The bigger brewery has a pub (located upstairs) called Tank310. Tara enjoyed her usual selection of a flight of light to medium beer tasters, while Jeff tried a couple of different pints of IPA (one seasonal). We also enjoyed the Sausage & Mustard Board ($17), which was excellent. Valbella grilled sausage, Rillette and a duo of mustards for dipping. If you find yourself driving to or through Canmore take the time to stop at The Grizzly Paw Brewing Company, it’s worth it and be sure to pick up one of their flavoured Soda’s on the way out the door!
