Laura Hartwig Winery
A friend had given us this wine as a gift and we have to admit that neither of us had heard of it before. The Laura Hartwig winery is located in the Colchagua Valley of Chile. The Colchagua Valley is renowned for the high quality of their wines. Four distinct seasons and influences of the Pacific Ocean breeze make it an ideal place for growing grapes. The area has an average of 600 mm of rainfall during the year, which are concentrated in the winter months (May to September).
Laura Hartwig Wine
The wine we were given was the 2010 Laura Hartwig Cabernet Sauvignon. Described as an Old Vines Cabernet Sauvignon the wine is aged for six months in French Oak before bottling. It is dark red in colour and smelled of dark berries. We thought the taste was unique and filled with a smokiness (almost burnt like taste) with hints of dark chocolate. The wine had a very smooth finish, but was a little dryer tasting then our normal wines. However it was great to try something completely different and we would have this one again for sure, (it was a gift, so not sure of its price.)
