Nanoose Bay, BC to Victoria, BC
We headed down the Malahat Highway from Nanoose Bay, where we had been staying at Fairwinds Golf Course, to check out Highland Pacific Golf Course. This was our first visit to the course and we were very impressed. We will be back to check out the Grand Opening of the full 18 holes in June (and of course we will blog about it). We checked in at the Hotel Grand Pacific – great hotel, no in room wireless (see blog about Customer Expectations). We love to stay around the harbour so love the location but if the wireless situation is not improved we will stick to our favorite location The Fairmont Empress.

Dining in Victoria
We met some friends at Nautical Nellies on Wharf Street for dinner. It was a weeknight but was fairly busy which is always a good sign. Our server started out great but with a shift change (surprising at 7:30) we ended up with a few new servers and things fell apart a bit. However, the food was very good. For appys we each had something different on our own. Tara had the Northwest Spinach Salad with cranberries and feta. Jeff had the Lobster Bisque which was excellent. Our friends had an Escargot and a Caesar Salad. The salads were good but were served in a glass bowl, almost like a parfait dish, making them a bit difficult to eat and we ended up asking for plates. For entrees we each tried something different. Tara had the BC Sablefish with Lemon Caper Butter and Jeff had a Sirloin with Snow Crab and Scallops. The meal was a 7 oz sirloin, a half pound of crab and 5 scallops. The scallops were small but the meal itself was a big portion and very good. Our friends opted for a New York Steak and a Crab Stuffed Chicken. The chicken was wrapped with bacon and stuffed with crab. We all agreed that the food was very good. For wine we chose the Burrowing Owl Merlot which was, of course great (we love Burrowing Owl), but we thought it was a bit over-priced at $61.

Heading Home
Before we headed home, we were invited out for a breakfast. Watch for our blog about ‘Cabin 12’ as the food was excellent! Forty-five minutes early for the Ferry, then it was 15 minutes late arriving, 1 hour and 45 minutes across to Tsawwassen and finally just over an hour in the car and we are back home in downtown Vancouver. Only a 4 hour trip!
