The NHL powers that be must be reading our blog, one day after writing our blog NHL Needs to Retool the All-Star Game, the league announce that Detroit Red Wing players Nicklas Lidstrom and Pavel Datsyuk will be suspended for their next regular season game for skipping the All-Star Game due to alleged injuries. Some believe they have plans with their families and never planned to attend the game anyway.

The new rule states that any player who misses the game must also either miss the regular season game before or after the All-Star Game. Sydney Crosby escaped the suspension, upon hearing of the league’s new rule by jumping on a plane to attend the game to be available to fans, sponsors and the media. He will not play due to an injury he is recovering from.

I for one, like the new rule and believe players selected by the fans should be required to attend.
