Fall Golf
Yesterday I had the chance to join some golf industry friends and play Point Grey Golf and Country Club. Point Grey is a private club off Marine Drive in Vancouver roughly located between the Musqueam Golf Center and McCleery Golf Course. The drive in is a bit tough to see if you aren’t looking for it, but on arrival to the parking lot you get a sense this is a special place!
The Arrival
After we arrived, put on our golf shoes and grabbed our clubs we proceeded to the Golf Shop. As it turned out this day was a Monday in which the club is closed until noon and the Clubhouse is closed all day! This meant our 1:06 tee time left us among the about 30ish or so people playing the golf course all day.
Thoughts About Point Grey
It has to have been 6 or 7 years since I played this golf course and it was fantastic! The conditions were unbelievable… the greens rolled true, the fairways were nice and tight and the entire property was green from wall to wall. It is a tree lined golf course that seemed to get narrower as the round went on (luckily I had a decent ball striking day). I have never played Augusta National (home of the Masters), but Point Grey made me think of it a couple of times during the day. I don’t think this golf course gets as much credit as the ‘big four’ (Capilano, Shaughnessy, Marine Drive, Vancouver Golf Club, the latter of which I have yet to play), but for my money Point Grey was fantastic. I will state that some of the holes are average but the conditions and pace of play (3 hours and 45 minutes for foursome walking) make up for it! Can’t wait to go back.
Played there about a month ago, and I have to agree. It gets better each year. I enjoyed working at Point for seven years, and the quality now is at another level. It is a must play if you can find your way on.
