We had a chance to play Fraserview Golf Course in Vancouver recently. Jeff hadn’t played it in 12 plus years and Tara had never played it. Needless to say we were anxious to hit the course. We arrived and it was raining pretty hard, but after a short warm-up under the covered driving range we decided to go anyway. Luckily the rain left after the third hole, the sun broke and the temperature rose!

Jeff’s Opinion: The golf course was in excellent condition from tee to green, I was very impressed. The layout was excellent as remembered, and although every hole is lined by thick trees and dense under brush the fairways and rough are have lots of room for the occasional bad shot and the layout itself is actually less penal than I remembered. Green speeds were good and very difficult to read which made putting with the correct speed the key to avoiding the dreaded three putt. If there is a knock on Fraserview, the front nine is bit on the short side with wedge into almost every par four and making the two par five’s very reachable in two shots. However, the back nine becomes longer, particularly the par four 17th hole, adding to the challenge of scoring well. I personally could play the 18th hole 18 times. I loved it as great risk, reward par five finishing hole!

Tara’s Opinion: I on the other hand liked the shorter front nine. It gave me a chance to get going, even though I never really did. From the red tees the 5144 yard layout was great fun for me to play. If putting had not been such a challenge I had the opportunity to score well. The greens were smooth and quick so it was me not the conditions that made the putting difficult. The newly refinished golf shop, while still small, does offer a selection of ladies clothing. I did not have time to try anything on but will be back to check out the Elevate Olympic wear which the last course we played only had for men. The course also has a brand new power cart fleet and the full windshield, rain cover and towels were great for our first three holes in the rain.

Overall this is a must play and should be enjoyed many times throughout the golf season!
