An Afternoon in Gastown with Brunch at Chill Winston
As mentioned in a previous blog about the city (Long Weekend in the City – Conclusion) we recently spent an afternoon strolling around Gastown and stopped for brunch at Chill Winston. Their moto of ‘eat.drink.chill’ completely described the vibe that we were looking for that day and the restaurant did not disappoint. It was a warm and sunny day and the outdoor patio located both in front and at the side of the building is a great place to watch people, bikes, cars and buses converge on the three way intersection of Water, Powell and Carrall streets. We arrived after 1:00 but took advantage of the weekend brunch menu that offers selections from both breakfast and lunch. Jeff wanted breakfast and opted for the Waffles one each served three ways, strawberry compote, chocolate and maple syrup with lime. All three were delicious and thankfully their was just enough but not too much of the chocolate sauce. An excellent weekend brunch that went well with a pint of Pale Ale too!

I was looking for lunch and chose the buttermilk chili chicken sandwich which was a chicken breast covered with a light and spicy breading served on Foccacia. The chicken itself was large and I ended up leaving the bun and eating the chicken with the house green salad. The salad dressing had an unusual but interestingly ‘smokey’ flavor which went well with the dried cranberries and almond slices. An excellent lunch that went well with a pint of Blanche de Chambly Heffeweisse. The patio was full and there did not seem to be a lot of staff but the service was still pretty good.

We sat outside on this particular day but the interior of the restaurant is finished with both tables and lounge type furniture with a welcoming bar area in the center. We plan to go back on a not so nice day and sit inside.

Food – GOOD, Service – GOOD, Atmosphere – GREAT
