NHL Round One Re-Cap
A pretty good start to round one with my playoff predictions but it was tough to watch the Canucks get swept.  My record in the first round was 6 – 2, you can read the summary here. My Dad was quick to email me when he saw I didn’t give him a mention for going 7 – 1 in round one, so here is the shout out! There was a total of 5 of the 8 series’ won by the underdog (per the standings) team and only one Canadian team (Ottawa) remains after Vancouver, Montreal and Toronto were knocked out. So for the second year in a row, the Canucks are off to the golf course and can break out their summer logo after the first round (I’ll be back cheering them on next season).

NHL Round Two Predictions
Western Conference

Chicago Blackhawks (1) vs. Detroit Red Wings (7) – Chicago Blackhawks in 7

  • Detroit is solid and never gives up, while experience counts, the Blackhawks are just too good. This will be a great series.

Los Angeles Kings (5) vs. San Jose Sharks (6) – Los Angeles Kings in 6

  • The Sharks are just not good enough and are aging.They also have a poor playoff history among the core group. The Kings have youth and experience from last year to lean on. This will be a physical series.


Eastern Conference

Pittsburgh Penguins (1) vs. Ottawa Senators (7) – Pittsburgh Penguins in 6 Pittsburgh won 4 -1 

  • Admittedly Ottawa played a great series and got better as it went on against Montreal, but I think the Penguins got a bit of a scare from the Islanders and will tighten up defensively for this series. This will still be a high scoring series.

 Boston Bruins (4) vs. New York Rangers (6) – New York Rangers in 7 Boston won 4 -1 

  • This series is a bit of a toss-up, I think the Bruins will come out strong after a first round scare from the Leafs. But if King Henrik plays like he did late in round one, the Rangers will be tough.
