One-of-a-kind medals show off our great landscapes
Medals – Every medal given out at the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Vancouver will be one-of-a-kind. The medals were unveiled on October 15th and each feature a different crop of larger contemporary Aboriginal artwork. They are undulating rather than flat and are inspired by the ocean waves, drifting snow and mountainous landscapes found in the Games region and throughout Canada. The medals were designed with direct input from Olympic and Paralympic athletes who shared their experiences about medals they won at past Games and what they would like to see in future medals. More information about the medals can be found on the website!
Intellectual Podcasts – The Globe and Mail and Vancouver 2010 have partnered to introduce ‘Intellectual Muscle”, a series of podcasts featuring Canadian intellectuals discussing topics relating to the 2010 Games. Universities from across the country will participate in the program that will run from now until the end of March 2010. Each talk is about 20 minutes and can be downloaded to your MP3.
For the Art Lover – This weekend Aboriginal Art lovers will have a chance to meet some of the 50 plus artists that have been chosen to have their works permanently installed at Vancouver 2010 venues. They will be showing a selection of their paintings, carvings and photography on Saturday Oct 17th from 9 am to 8 pm and Sunday Oct 18th from 9 am to 6 pm in Hall A at Canada Place. Admission is free.
