Golfweek’s Best rankings of the Top 25 Classic Courses in Canada
Golfweek Online Magazine released its Top 25 list of courses in Canada… built BEFORE 1960. It is  an interesting list for sure. Interestingly (for us) Jeff has only played three courses on the list, while Tara has only played one of the courses.

Some Interest Notes on the Top 25 Golf Courses
Stanley Thompson leads the list of the Top 25 Canadian Golf Course designers, which include:

  • #1 – Banff Springs
  • #2 – Jasper Park Lodge
  • #3 – St. George’s
  • #4 – Capilano
  • #6 – Westmount
  • #9 – Cape Breton Highlands
  • #11 – Le Chateau Montebello
  • #15 – Brantford G&CC (co-design)
  • #23 – Mississauga G&CC (co-design)

The number two listed golf course designer…
A.V. Macan is a notable golf course designer, particularly in Western Canada. His noted works include:

  • #13 – Shaughnessy G&CC
  • #17 – Victoria GC
  • #24 – Royal Colwood

It is also worth mentioning that Fairmont Hotels has four courses in the top 25 (pre 1960) on the list.
These include:

  • #1 – Banff Springs
  • #2 – Jasper Park Lodge
  • #11 – Le Chateau Montebello
  • #19 – Summit (Ontario)
